Turpins Falls

Shillidays Road, Langley VIC

In the volcanic country near Kyneton, Turpins Falls drops into a deep, dark plunge pool ringed by columnar basalt cliffs - a dramatic swimming hole hidden in farmland an hour and a half from Melbourne. In summer the falls slow and the pool becomes a popular place to swim and leap from the rocks, though the depth, cold water and cliff jumps have made it a place that demands real caution. The circular pool below the basalt walls has a wild, secret feel. It is one of central Victoria's best-known natural swimming spots, best visited with care and respect.
