Montezuma Falls

Williamsford Road, Rosebery TAS

The highest waterfall in Tasmania, Montezuma drops more than a hundred metres through the rainforest of the wild west coast near Rosebery. The walk in follows the bed of an old mining tramway for an easy but long three hours return, winding through myrtle and man-fern forest dripping with moss, before arriving at a swaying suspension bridge strung across the gorge opposite the falls. The bridge is not for the faint-hearted, but the sight of the water plunging through the green is unforgettable. This is the temperate rainforest of the west at its most primeval.
