Bush Walk
Lower Portals Track
Mount Barney National Park, Rathdowney QLD
A Grade 4 walking track into Mount Barney National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area in the upper Scenic Rim near Rathdowney. The 7.4-kilometre return route crosses moderate to steep slopes with rough sections and two rocky creek crossings before ending at a deep pool set within a rocky gorge of Mount Barney Creek. Rare animals and plant communities survive in the wild country around the mountain, and there is no easy way to climb Mount Barney itself — the marked lower tracks are how most visitors meet the park.
