Gladstone (Mount Cameron) Fossicking Area

Old tin workings via Gladstone Road, Mount Cameron, Gladstone TAS

On the northern slopes of Mount Cameron in Tasmania's far north-east, about 90 kilometres from Launceston, this declared fossicking area follows the old tin workings strung along Ah Kaw, Mount Cameron and Alhambra creeks. The granite country here is known for large crystals of smoky quartz, with clear quartz, amethyst, topaz and jasper turning up among the diggings. Historic mining relics are scattered through the reserve and asked to be left undisturbed. Good sealed roads reach it via Scottsdale or St Helens.
