Dead Horse Gap Walk

Snowy Mountains · NSW

A scenic alpine walk from Thredbo through snow gum woodlands to Dead Horse Gap on the border of Kosciuszko National Park. The trail follows the Thredbo River through a valley of twisted snow gums before climbing to open alpine meadows. In summer the wildflower displays are magnificent and in autumn the snow gums turn golden. Wild brumbies are sometimes spotted grazing in the open grasslands along the way.

Know before you go

Exposed to weather with no shelter on the open sections. Snow gums provide limited shade. Carry warm clothing even in summer as mountain weather is unpredictable. Trail is snow-covered in winter.
