Woowookarung Regional Park
Woowookarung Regional Park, Ballarat VIC
A 641-hectare stretch of messmate stringybark forest, grass trees and native heath adjoining Ballarat East, Canadian and Mount Clear, declared in 2016 as a park by the people, for the people — its Wadawurrung name translates as place of plenty. Australia's first dementia-friendly forest and sensory trail opened here, a one-kilometre accessible route with quiet places for reflection. Bushwalkers, trail runners, riders and on-lead dogs share the wider track network, with kangaroos and echidnas often about and wildflowers in season.
