Wilpena Pound Lookout

A moderately challenging walk to the rim of Wilpena Pound offering breathtaking views into this enormous natural amphitheatre in the Flinders Ranges. The ancient geological formation is over 800 million years old and holds deep significance for the Adnyamathanha people. From the rim you can see across the entire pound to the distant peaks of St Mary Peak and Edeowie Gorge. Best visited in the cooler months when wildflowers carpet the surrounding hills.

Carry at least 2 litres of water per person. No shade on much of the walk. Temperatures can be extreme in summer so avoid walking midday. Mobile reception is limited.
