Wave Rock

Wave Rock Road, Hyden, Hyden WA

A granite face 15 metres high and 110 metres long, curled like a breaking wave at the edge of the eastern Wheatbelt town of Hyden, about four hours inland from Perth. More than 2.7 billion years of wind and rainwater erosion shaped the multicoloured flank. To Noongar people the rock is Katter Kich, long used as a meeting place, and Mulka's Cave a short drive away holds more than 450 rock paintings. Walking trails explore the outcrop and nearby Hippo's Yawn, with dampiera, grevillea and cassia colouring the surrounding bush after rain.
