A heat management strategy limits access through the hottest months, September to March. When the forecast is 36°C or above you must start the Kings Canyon Rim Walk before 9am — after that you will not be permitted to begin it, so plan on an early start and keep the shorter walks for the middle of the day. A 4WD is recommended for the unsealed approaches via Ernest Giles Road and the Red Centre Way.
