Torrington State Conservation Area Fossicking

Granite country north of Glen Innes, where tors and slabs rise out of dry heath and woodland thick with boronia, grevillea and native mint-bush in spring. The Mystery Face walking track climbs past the biggest of the granite formations, and the reserve is one of NSW's noted fossicking grounds — its pegmatites have yielded fine emerald, topaz, beryl and quartz, with a creek near the Blatherarm campground a favourite spot to try your luck. The park is open year-round, closing only for fire or poor weather.
