Six Foot Track

Six Foot Track Trailhead, Nellies Glen Road, Katoomba

A 42km, three-day walk from Katoomba to Binda Bush cabins, following the route surveyed in 1884 as a six-foot-wide horse track between Katoomba and Jenolan Caves. Drops down through the Megalong Valley, crosses the Cox's River on the suspension bridge, then climbs the Mini-Mini Range. Kanangra-Boyd National Park and state forest in between. Currently terminates at Binda Bush while Jenolan Caves remains closed. Managed by Crown Lands NSW. Trip intention form recommended.

Know before you go

This is an inland 42km one-way walk from near Katoomba, usually done over three days, and it is graded hard. It is currently affected by closures: with the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve shut, the track now finishes at Binda Bush cabins rather than Jenolan Caves. There is no public transport at either end, so arrange your own transfers. You cross the Coxs River on a swing bridge, the track gets boggy after rain, and you must carry your own drinking water. Lodge a trip intention form and carry a personal locator beacon — they are lent free from the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre.
