Point Quobba Blowholes

Blowholes Road, Quobba, Quobba WA

Ocean swells drive seawater through sea caves and out of narrow vents in the rock shelf at Point Quobba, 75 kilometres north of Carnarvon by sealed road, throwing jets up to 20 metres into the air. The display runs hardest on a rising tide and all but disappears at the top of it, when water covers the vents. A kilometre south lies a sheltered, coral-filled lagoon known as the Aquarium — calm, shallow snorkelling water with a white sand beach behind it. This is remote Gascoyne coast: carry water, food and supplies.
