Paddys Ranges State Park Prospecting Area

Maryborough, Maryborough, VIC

Box-Ironbark forest spreads across nearly 2,000 hectares of low ranges southwest of Maryborough, a remnant of the goldfields country that once drew miners, grazers and eucalyptus-oil cutters. Over 230 wildflower and orchid species colour the understorey in spring, and the bird list runs past 140, including the rare Swift Parrot. A family walking track loops from the picnic area to an old distillery dam, and recreational prospecting is permitted in designated areas with a Miner's Right. The park is jointly managed by the Dja Dja Wurrung and Parks Victoria.
