Glenalva Fossicking Area

Set in the Central Queensland sapphire gemfields between Anakie and the Willows, this designated fossicking area lies off the Capricorn Highway, signposted about 20 kilometres from Anakie and an hour west of Emerald. Fossickers work the wash for sapphires that run predominantly green and blue-green through to yellow, with occasional parti-colours and black star stones. The ground is set aside for fossickers alone, with camping permitted up to three months by permit but no facilities and only seasonal creek water on site.
