Bay of Fires

Binalong Bay, Binalong Bay TAS

Along the north-east coast from Binalong Bay northward, the Bay of Fires is a run of dazzling white beaches, clear turquoise water and boulders splashed with vivid orange lichen - a coastline regularly named among the most beautiful in the world. Walkers can wander empty beach after empty beach, camp behind the dunes, or take the guided multi-day lodge walk that traverses the whole stretch. The name comes not from the lichen but from the fires of Aboriginal people seen by an early navigator. Swimming, fishing and simple beachcombing fill the days. It is the Tasmanian coast at its most radiant.
